Sonia Employability Case Study

Sonia joined First College as a Work Programme client. Sonia had a number of barriers preventing her from returning to work. Sonia suffered with severe depression, society anxiety and was on a great deal of medication. Sonia would usually attend her appointments crying and shaking, full of despair and finding life difficult to cope with.

Shirley Cutforth encouraged Sonia to join Spilsby Theatre Group where not only could she make the most of her artistic flair behind the scenes but she could also gain valuable experience socialising, which would in turn build her confidence.

Sonia has now organised a Tea Dance to include advertising and recruiting all the helpers herself.

Sonia attended the “Healthworks” fair at the Embassy Theatre in Skegness which is something she would not have contemplated a year ago. This involved networking with a wide variety of people for involvement with her theatre group. Sonia is also looking at the Lincs Credit Union for funds to help with extra training. This has been positive for Sonia and a complete success.

Sonia says

“Shirley has helped me to get through all the red tape and in the transition from being very poorly to now engaging in the type of work I enjoy. She has supported me face to face and over the phone and has taken away the fear of stepping back into the world of work”
